Understanding the timeline reduces anxiety. Hair transplant recovery has predictable phases; visible "final" results require patience through shock loss and slow regrowth.
Days 1–3
- Mild swelling possible around forehead and eyes
- Sleep elevated 45°, avoid touching grafts
- Take prescribed medication as directed
Days 4–14
- Gentle washing per clinic protocol
- Scabs form and shed — do not pick
- Most desk jobs resume day 3–5
- Avoid gym, swimming, alcohol per instructions
Weeks 2–8
Shock loss: transplanted hairs shed while follicles remain. This is normal and temporary. Redness fades; donor zone heals.
Months 3–6
New growth begins — often fine and lighter at first. Density improves month by month. First meaningful cosmetic change for many patients.
Months 12–18
Mature result. Texture thickens. Final assessment and comparison photos. Further session only if donor allows and goals require.
